The image displays four side-by-side panels featuring a microscopic view of a droplet on a flat surface. The first panel, labeled "Original," shows the droplet in a natural color with a light yellowish background. The second panel, titled "Label," shows the droplet in solid white against the same yellowish surface, highlighting its shape. The third panel, labeled "Uncertainty," presents the droplet in a gradient of blue and green colors, indicating different levels of uncertainty surrounding its contour. The fourth panel, marked "AI," displays the droplet in bright red and orange with a more defined outline and a dark yellow background, suggesting a processed or enhanced image representation.

AI-based Analysis of Image Data

Summary

The project focused on three areas: optimizing a flexible AI algorithm for tool wear detection through adjustments in image size, network size, and image augmentation; applying these optimizations to detect melt pool areas in laser beam welding cross-sections; and exploring indirect estimation of keyhole depth in laser beam welding using surface roughness measurements, although the initial approach did not yield a useful correlation.
